Post by John Beyers via Facebook. [Photo] “The Global Methodist Church Connectional Council
I am greatly honored to be among this group of exceptional global servants of Jesus Christ, including laity, clergy, bishops, and gifted General Church staff members, from Bulgaria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, the Philippines, and the United States. We are charged by General Conference to steward, guide, and advance the mission and ministry of the Global Methodist movement between sessions of General Conference.” (Added 5-10-2025)
“Why Do We Ordain?” by Hunter Bethea. “As I begin to write this, I am preparing to be ordained as an elder in the Global Methodist Church in about 36 hours. The longer I’ve pastored, the more I’ve realized that people—myself included—often don’t know the “why” behind many of the things we do as Methodists. I’ve found that answering the “why” question brings more clarity, meaning, and interest in our faith.” (Added 5-10-2025)

“Beyond the Salvation Wars with Matthew Bates” by Andy Miller via More to the Story Podcast (YouTube). (Added 5-8-2025)
“The Central Conference of Nigeria – A Conversation with Alexander Sabo” by Jeffrey Rickman via Plainspoken (YouTube). “In this conversation, Rev. Sabo takes time to explain to me the particular challenges in his conference, where United Methodists are actually a bigger threat to the brethren than Muslims. Take some time to learn about ministry here, how you can support Rev. Sabo and his fellow workers in faith, and how to pray for that tense context. Thanks be to God who has been so faithful in supporting them! May we likewise be faithful in prayer.” (Added 5-7-2025)

Post by Mike Morgan via Facebook. [“Same”: Part 1] “It is true that our denomination has grown significantly in these first three years and it is also true that the root of this is we have primarily added congregations, not created or experienced an explosion of new to Christ disciples in the past 3 years. My encouragement, even to those who have magnificently deep and wide ministries is to gaze deeply into the soul of your church and ask, “Are we spending ourselves in growing new disciples?” (Added 5-6-2025)

“Theological Quibbles” by Art Collins. “This is not to say that the Articles of Religion and Confession of Faith couldn’t stand some updating; I’m just leery of trying. But if we say we’re going to make the effort, then I might as well put my opinions out there. So this is my review of some of the more problematic articles. Post by Anthony McPhail via Facebook. “Now that the announcement is official for General Conference 2026 in Johannesburg, South Africa, I can finally share my whereabouts from early January! At the beginning of this year, I got to visit Africa for the first time (continent number 5!) to scout out sites for this conference. It was one of the most incredible experiences, and it is a humbling honor to be a part of this work. Sandton is a beautiful and safe area of Jo’burg, and it is going to make an incredible site for a historic conference next year. There is still a lot of work to be done, but today I am grateful to have the announcement out into the world and to share a few pictures from my journey.” (Added 4-30-2025)

The gathering will take place at the prestigious Sandton Convention Centre, located in the heart of the city’s vibrant and well-connected financial district.” (Added 4-30-2025)
Post by Bishop Scott Jones via Facebook. “I regretfully and reluctantly have come to the conclusion that the United Methodist Church in Nigeria is using violence as an intentional strategy. My wife and I were present and nearly caught up in one violent act. Since then, there have been too many incidents where UMC people have brought machetes and guns to a property currently controlled by the Global Methodist Church. People have died and been injured. Property has been stolen and homes set on fire…” (Added 4-30-2025)
“Pete Bellini” by Bishop Carolyn Moore via Art of Holiness. April 28 interview: “Rev. Dr. Pete Bellini (“Petey”) is brilliant and faithful and deeply spiritual and that’s what makes conversation with him so good. He is an interdisiplinary academic, which a gift to the rest of us. It means he can connect the dots between the seen and the unseen, and he does so in the most accessible way. In his latest book, he writes about the intersection between neuroscience, emotional health and spirituality.” (Added 4-30-2025)
Post by Odell Horne via Facebook. “Regionalization does not get rid of the Jurisdictional Conference system that was established during segregation, and was weaponized by liberals and progressives against evangelicals who disaffiliated. Now that the evangelicals are gone, liberals and progressives are silent on Jurisdictional Conference.” (Added 4-30-2025)

“The Particular Challenges of Wesleyan Class Meetings – A Conversation with Charles Bartlett” by Jeffrey Rickman via Plainspoken (YouTube). “This is just a conversation with a guy I met on the internet about the intersection of the Anglican tradition with Methodism in the US. He is one of the few people who has actually participated in a Wesleyan class meeting that pretty closely resembled how it was actually done. He has a lot of personal experience with the Book of Common Prayer (1928 version) and the daily disciplines that once marked Anglican Methodists.” (Added 4-29-2025)
“A Dynamic Faith: The Story of Early Methodism, Part II” by Ryan Danker via Firebrand Magazine. “In many ways, Wesley was not an innovator, but an amalgamator. He brought together ideas and practices from numerous quarters to address the needs of the people under his care. What the early Methodists often did was to add additional levels of care within their communities, sometimes with even greater relational intentionality (i.e. they knew one another very well in their bands), adding to the social net that was in place and expanding its impact.” (Added 4-29-2025)
“Escaping Gravity: Bishops as Servants of Christ and His Church” by Bishop Jeff Greenway via Firebrand Magazine. “Our convening General Conference provided the thrust needed for many of us to break free, but here we are—six months later—and I wonder: have we escaped the gravitational pull of our past? I ask this because, even though the General Conference dramatically redefined the episcopacy, I find we often face the gravitational pull of the way bishops have operated in the past.” (Added 4-29-2025)
Post by Bishop Carolyn Moore (Facebook). “Friends, I can’t wait to share [Wesleyan Holiness Women’s Connection] with Global Methodist women pastors, so we too may experience the encouragement and spiritual care I’ve found in this group. “A Dynamic Faith: The Story of Early Methodism, Part I” by Ryan Danker via Firebrand Magazine. “…Methodism was always bigger than Wesley. The story is actually one of international scope, of war-fatigued nations and peoples, of historical memories both good and bad, and of men and women swept up by the Holy Spirit in seemingly random outbursts of revival over the course of decades. Those who encountered this dynamic work of the Spirit often spent the rest of their lives in wonder, just trying to describe what happened.” (Added 4-22-2025)
Post by Jeffrey Rickman via Facebook. “The Connectional Conversation hosted by the GMC yesterday, in which Matthew C Conover and Harrison James Bell presented the denominational budget, was yesterday. The UMC has an annual budget of around $300 million. The budget the GMC just presented is shy of $6.4 million… This is as it should be. And it won’t be a problem unless at some point those in charge start taking offense to expectations of transparency and openness. But if yesterday’s session is an indicator of things to come, count me pleased. There is more to be done, but this is a great start!” (Added 4-21-2025)

“Baptismal Regeneration and the Wesleyan Way” by James Mahoney via Firebrand Magazine. “Early Methodists are uniform in teaching and declaring that baptism and regeneration may not always occur at the same time in adults. One may be baptized, and not have saving faith, or saving faith may come later. At the same time, opinions are more diverse when it comes to infants. Baptizing an infant obviously brings spiritual benefits to the child—baptism is, after all, a sacrament. Through baptism, God imparts grace to the infant. Baptism is a beginning, but whether this beginning is grace or new life remained unsettled for early Methodists.” (Added 4-15-2025)

The emphasis is on personal happiness rather than holiness, self-esteem rather than self-denial, Jesus as Savior rather than Jesus as Lord, and life after death in another world rather than life right now in this one. Post via Report Liberia (Facebook). [Additional Pictures] “Police Arrest Breakaway Methodist Worshipers Amid UMC Property Dispute — Paynesville, Liberia – March 2, 2025 – Tensions flared at the 72nd United Methodist Church in Paynesville on Sunday, March 2, as breakaway members of the Global Methodist Church (GMC) clashed with police over ownership of the church property. Several worshipers, including Rev. Dr. Jerry Kulah, were arrested after defying a court ruling that upheld the United Methodist Church (UMC) as the rightful owner of the building. GMC members attempted to hold a Sunday service at the disputed property, arguing that their dues and tithes had contributed to the church’s construction. However, police intervened to enforce the Paynesville Magistrate Court’s ruling, leading to a violent confrontation. Stones were thrown, police deployed tear gas, and the clashes disrupted normal activities in the surrounding community. Bishop Samuel Quire of the United Methodist Church reaffirmed that church properties belong to the UMC, not individual congregations. State security forces have since secured the premises, removing locks placed by GMC members and allowing the newly appointed UMC pastor to take control. The dispute at the 72nd United Methodist Church is part of a larger global split within the UMC over LGBTQ+ issues, including same-sex marriage and LGBTQ+ clergy ordination. Several other churches in Liberia, including Miller McAllister Methodist Church in Ganta, New Georgia United Methodist Church, and EJ McGill Methodist Church, have also broken away over these theological disagreements. Since 2022, the UMC has allowed congregations to disaffiliate, leading many to join the more conservative Global Methodist Church (GMC). However, legal battles over church properties have continued, as breakaway groups claim ownership based on their contributions. The Sunday incident also affected residents. One community member accused the police of ruining her pot of soup during the chaos, though authorities denied responsibility, blaming the disruption on people fleeing the scene.
With tensions still high, authorities have warned against further attempts to reclaim UMC properties, as the matter remains under legal review. (Added 3-2-2025)

They stood up and professed their call to be ordained Deacons and Elders in the church. 4 Deacons and 7 Elders. They danced in praise to God’s faithfulness as they sang about where they get their help from in times of trouble. If you want to see faces of strong and courageous people, check them out. Post by Bishop Scott Jones via Facebook. “The regular session of the Central Nigeria Annual Conference scheduled to be held at Banyam Theological Seminary yesterday and today, February 17 and 18. A group of UMC supporters disrupted the opening worship on Monday. Because we wished to preserve peace we moved the Conference to a different location. However the UMC supporters returned to Banyam expecting Bishops Jones and Auta to be there with the Conference. Some carried guns and others carried machetes. They invaded the seminary grounds, broke windows and attacked GMC people. The GMC people offered no resistance. One man was hospitalized with a head wound. A presiding elder was cut on his chest and hospitalized. Five others were hospitalized. Mrs. Titi Auta and a friend were locked in a room for several hours. Finally a unit of the Nigerian Army intervened at Bishop Auta’s request and dispersed the attackers. Meanwhile Bishop Jones convened the conference, delivered the Episcopal Address and ordained four deacons and seven elders. In his address Bishop Jones focused on scriptural holiness and told the people they should not respond to violence with violence.” (Added 2-18-2025)

It is time to repent, pick up our servant’s towel, and meet Jesus at the cross. We are in the midst of an epidemic of pride, but we will never defeat this virus by taking on the ways of the world. Our only hope as Christians is getting lower, serving others, and walking the cruciform-shaped life of our savior.” (Added 1-14-2025)

Despite the attempts to disrupt your worship, the Kapusa Village Global Methodist Church in Abuja continues to thrive. Every Sunday, their spirit-filled worship services are a testament to God’s presence among them As the Bible says, “Where God is, there is growth” (2 Corinthians 9:8). A comfortable church can easily succumb to that cardinal sin of sloth. A church seeking respectability among those who do not share our faith or values will have abdicated her prophetic voice… Over time, the Western church lost its nerve. My prayer for 2025 is that we will begin to see a recovery of it. In what follows I’ll offer a few steps Christians can take to this end.” (Added 1-7-2025)
